Newly diagnosed with T1D?
Being newly diagnosed with type one diabetes (T1D) can be an incredibly scary, overwhelming, and lonely experience. Rest assured, even if you are the only kid with T1D in your school, you are not alone.
The goal of KY Diabetes Family Day is to connect kids and families experiencing T1D to healthcare resources and opportunities, while also building a supportive community to reduce the isolation that often comes with T1D management. This event is open for children of all ages as well as parents / guardians, family members, friends, and others who wish to learn more about T1D management to help support or treat a person with diabetes. Let's take the scary and lonely out of your T1D diagnosis. Come join us for a day of interactive education! |

JOIN FOR FAMILY-BASED EDUCATION
- Come to Louisville, Kentucky to hear from guest speakers about various topics relating to T1D, such as current technology, health tips for daily life with T1D, the effects of food on blood glucose, and more! We will emphasize topics that may not be discussed in a typical doctor’s visit and items that are beneficial for families experiencing a new diagnosis. These presentations will be followed by a Q&A.
- Interact with vendor booths from diabetes supply companies and other diabetes-related groups.
- Visit vendors to become more acquainted with the companies and technology that you may use in the future! There will be dedicated time for families to visit vendor tables upon arrival, during age group events, during lunch, and before departure.
- Complete a vendor booth BINGO card for a chance to win prizes!
- Build a supportive community with other parents and kids with similar T1D experiences during age-group events!
- Catered Lunch - Jimmy John's!
- Engage in a Q&A with a panel of speakers with Type 1 Diabetes! Parents and kids can ask questions about daily life, helpful tips, and information on playing sports, being active, driving, school, sleep overs, puberty, traveling/vacationing, etc. Any and all questions are welcome and will be answered from people with experience!
- Conclude the day with the giveaway of diabetes related prizes based on BINGO card completion.
